ELEVATION-DEPRESSION (3)

Nabo is now assistant driver in electric train. He gets handsome salary per month. He has started going chowk-chauraahaa (central junction point of roads where market grow and people of different sides gather and talk different topics). He has become the secretary of the union. He has all current news of the country and the world. He can give lecture on communism and socialism uninterrupted for hours. Now, there is no subject in the world, which is unknown to him. These are the basic points of gaining knowledge. If you want to know the world, you will have to come out of your room. The knowledge is scattered in the streets and markets. When I journey by train, I find people talking on all current affairs and all subjects which cannot be gained in a room. When you meet people of different fields, you get ready-made knowledge of many fields. Shastras (subjects) are infinite and one person cannot have the knowledge of all shastras by studying books himself. But, meeting people you get unlimited knowledge of all subjects, which is impossible to have if you keep yourself aloof from the people. I have seen people who have not gone to traditional schools or colleges, but have good knowledge of so many subjects. Indeed, they have shallow knowledge but they are good example of the proverb “Adhjal gagaree chhalkat jaay – empty vessel sounds much.” Before illiterate people, they give long lectures. When they come near scholars, they keep mum.
But, Nabo cannot keep mum because he has been mentally washed by the communist tutors and books. He has known that particular subjects’ scholars have not gained the knowledge of communism and socialism in the schools and colleges and he can teach them this topic. Moreover, more scholars enjoy silence and they are good listeners. Only a few scholars are good orators also where Nabo is defeated but this happens seldom. Most often, he is single speaker. One minus thing is that he does not know grammar. Therefore, he cannot speak on mike on a fixed subject. He jumps from one topic to another quickly and wants that people should know that he has vast knowledge. His handwriting is very beautiful but he cannot write. In writing, the ignorance appears vividly and even a primary class student will laugh. Therefore, he has decided not to write anything. Nevertheless, he is a good copier. Previously, he stole one handwritten book of his guru (tutor) and published it in his own name. Often he copies some topics from books and epics and speaks before the people.
Nabo is satisfied and proud of his achievement. He always narrates his previous story gleefully. I am telling you very interesting one. That was the day of independence. At the midnight of 14th August 1947, people (mostly Bengalese surrounding him) came out of their houses and began to shout slogans like –‘Mahatma Gandhi ki jay, Bande-Matram, Bharat Mata ki jay, Jawaharlal Nehru ki jay etc.’ Nabo also came out. However, he could not know what event had occurred and why people were shouting. He asked one of his Bengali friends about the joys. His friend told him about the independence but he could not know what it was and why celebration and slogans were being done. Nabo narrates the story proudly, "There was a time when he knew nothing and to-day he knew everything". Scholars laugh thinking that even to-day he knows nothing. -------------- In next.
